Living in the Spirit

Scripture Reading:
Psalm 89:1-4, 15-18
I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever;
with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;
your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
Bringing together the generations is one of our greatest challenges. My friends joke about having to call their grandchildren to show them how to do something on their computers. I see it most in my church. We have five generations represented in our church and realize that the generations’ differentiation is real. I think the need to meld the generations is true in most groups. What do we do, and who does what? How do we identify priorities? I remember my 95-year-old mother saying she loved the new choruses they were singing at her church, but she sure wished they would sing some of her old favorites too.
Interacting with younger people often makes us younger at heart. Spending time with older people may broaden our perspective on life. Being open to interaction is the best way to take advantage of the worth and blessings of generational differences.
Prayer: Lord, Help us grow together in spirit and truth as we live into your steadfast love. Amen.
